Fried Rice and its Health Benefits

Luigi's Mixed Rice concept is stir fry fried rice. Rice is a staple food for Filipinos and we modified a lot of recipes involving rice to make it more exciting, presentable and of course improve its taste.

As stated in Wikipedia, Fried Rice is a popular component of Asian cuisine, especially Chinese food. It is made from steamed rice stir-fried in a wok, often with other ingredients such as eggs, vegetables, and meat. It is sometimes served as the penultimate dish in Chinese banquets (just before dessert). As a home-cooked dish, fried rice typically is made with left over ingredients from other dishes, leading to countless variations.

There are many popular varieties of fried rice, each with its own specific list of ingredients. In Asia, the more famous varieties include Yangzhou and Fujian fried rice. Elsewhere, Chinese restaurants catering to non-Chinese clientele have invented their own varieties of fried rice including egg fried rice, Malaysian (spicy) fried rice and the ubiquitous 'special fried rice'.

Eating rice also has several benefits. Rice is a great source of complex carbohydrates which give us the energy we need. According to FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations), rice provides 20 percent of the world's dietary energy supply. Rice contains all the amino acids essential for building and maintaining muscle tissue, and make up antibodies, enzymes, and hormones. These amino acids also help maintain healthy skin, hair, eyesight, and nourish the heart, lungs, tendons and ligaments, brain, nervous system and glands.

White rice is one of the easiest and quickest foods to digest requiring only an hour to completely digest it. As such, rice is an ideal health food for those who are debilitated and weak and require easy assimilation and quick energy. Because of the low fiber content, white rice is very soothing to the digestive system and rice gruels along with buttermilk are recommended for digestive disorders such as diarrhea, dysentery, morning sickness, colitis, and jaundice. Rice is a good source of carbohydrates to build up energy or recharge ourselves after a hard day's work. Although we are advised to moderate the consumption of rice most especially during dinner, to avoid unburned calories, it is still best to have a balanced and complete diet regularly.
